David Handelsman
David Handelsman trained in Medicine (MB BS (Melb) 1974), Endocrinology (FRACP 1980) and research (PhD (Syd) 1984). After NHMRC Overseas and Wellcome Senior Postdoctoral Fellowships including working at Harbor-UCLA and University of Munster, Germany he was awarded a Personal Chair in Reproductive Endocrinology and Andrology (1996) at the University of Sydney. Following appointment as founding Director of the ANZAC Research Institute (1998), as Australia’s first Professor of Andrology, he created its first Andrology Department at Concord Hospital (1999). He is a past President and Life Member of the Endocrine Society of Australia, has served on the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee, the WHO Human Reproduction Program and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s Health, Medicine and Research Committee. His research into testicular function and androgen physiology, pharmacology, toxicology spans basic, clinical and public health domains including recent focus on genetic models of androgen action, steroid mass spectrometry, anti-doping science.
