Ian Martin

Ian Martin is a Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and Honorary Associate of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Sydney.  From 1955 until his retirement in 1994, Ian devoted his research activities to compiling a broad base of knowledge and expertise spanning many facets of mammalian reproductive biology, including the preservation of sperm, artificial insemination, the oestrous cycle, fertilization, implantation and lactation.  In the later years of his career, the was the driving force behind great advances in our understanding of the contribution of quantitative trait loci to reproductive physiology, generated from studies he undertook using the Quackenbush Swiss mouse line.  Ian is a long-term supporter and highly-regarded member of SRB and, although he officially retired more than 20 years ago, he has maintained an active role in supervising and advising students.  He continues to publish with his national and international collaborators, demonstrating his ongoing dedication to the field of reproductive biology.
