Roger Smith
Roger Smith AM, MB, BS, Hons, FRACP, FRANZCOG works on the reproduction of mammals with a special focus on humans. He identified the placental biological clock that determines human gestational length and the mechanisms that link this clock to the onset of labour. He has interests in the mathematics, molecular biology, protein chemistry, the evolution of human birth and in comparative reproductive studies, especially in primates. Roger applies his basic science to translational studies to reduce preterm birth and especially in efforts to reduce disparities in Aboriginal Australian life expectancy. Roger is also an active clinical endocrinologist.
